Rights and responsibilities


The Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights specifies the key rights of patients and consumers when seeking or receiving healthcare services. ACT Endoscopy is committed to ensuring that the care you receive respects your rights as an individual.

You have the right to:

  • Receive safe and high quality care

  • Health professionals who are competent, skilled and considerate

  • Be treated with respect and dignity and have your ethnic, cultural and religious practices and beliefs respected

  • Be informed of and give consent to your treatment

  • Be informed of options and costs
  • Be included in decisions and choices about your care.

  • Privacy and confidentiality of your condition, treatment and the information you provide

  • Comment on your care and have your concerns addressed promptly and properly

You have a responsibility to:

  • Provide accurate information regarding your medical history
  • Be considerate of the needs and rights of other patients and staff

  • Accept responsibility for the payment of fees (as per your estimate of fees quote) which is payable on admission

  • Discuss any issues you don’t understand with the doctor before you consent to any procedure/treatment

It is always best to resolve your complaint with the facility. If you have tried this and are still unsatisfied, you can make a complaint to the Health Care Complaints Commissioner.
